Doctor of Medicine Student Handbook 2024-2025

The School of Medicine MD Student Handbook defines the structure and expectations for MD students. Included herein are student-related policies, rules and regulations of Emory University and the Emory University School of Medicine (EUSOM). In addition, this Student Handbook guides students on matters of admission, academic and professional standards, progress and promotion, financial aid, student organizations, disability insurance, academic and personal counseling, and student health.

EUSOM is committed to teaching students the high academic and professional standards necessary to be an exemplary student, teammate, and physician. Part of being an excellent physician is being aware of expectations and making every effort to meet or exceed these expectations. At times when students do not meet these expectations, EUSOM is committed to the development of our students through transparent consequences that are growth-minded and safety oriented. EUSOM abides by and follows all University policies, except where noted.

The MD student handbook is the primary space for students to understand the expectations of EUSOM and how to operate as an MD student in the School of Medicine. The intent of creating the MD Student Handbook is to:

The policies and procedures appearing in the MD Student Handbook reflect the most current policies and procedures of Emory University and the School of Medicine but are subject to amendment and change without prior notice. EUSOM reserves the right to change policies, procedures, and programs. Minor changes will be posted directly to the Student Handbook. When major changes occur, a notification will be sent to all medical students.
